Job Description Job Description Job Description Summary The
Acute Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for providing
optimal care and services to patients in a hospital environment in
a network of surrounding hospitals. The position works
independently with the inpatient staff in ICU, CCU, Telemetry,
Med/Sur and ED units. The position applies leadership skills and
independence in implementing and evaluating individual patent
treatment plans within a dynamic atmosphere. The role works on the
nephrology health care team and engages in quality improvement
initiatives, i.e. teaching, leading, decision-making with the goal
to improve patient care results in the inpatient setting.
Experience/Training/Education Accredited School of Nursing
completed degree. Current and active California license to practice
as a registered professional nurse. Current certification in BLS
and/or ACLS Current and active “hands on” CPR Certification 1 years
of acute experience preferred Six months of experience in dialysis,
preferred Knowledge and understanding of the Nurse Practice Act
(NPA). Previous experience in critical care and med/surg nursing,

Care and Planning Performs all necessary tasks of Acute RN (See
Addendum) and provides safe and efficient patient care Informs and
establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and members of
the healthcare team, including family Files and enters patient
information before, during and following dialysis therapy; stays
engages in patient cycle and reports all aspects Educates patients
and families regarding dialysis treatments and safety Works with
multidisciplinary team to change treatment strategy for individual
patient needs Patient Care Management Engages with schedulers
regarding initiation of individual patients throughout the day and
provides a final report of all dialyzed patient’s Works with
suitable healthcare team member to monitor and note changes in
patient status and adjusts or terminates treatment plans
accordingly Monitors HIPPA compliant application ongoing and
throughout shift, stays engaged and interacts with appropriate
hospital staff and dialysis providers to offer correct continuity
of patient treatment Ensures medications are administered as
ordered, aligning with contractual agreement between hospital and
DCD. Receives and enters nephrology physician orders for assigned
patients into the medical record Knows and executes on individual
hospital and DCD emergency policies; initiates and assists with
emergency response plans Monitors and directs hospital staff in
suitable patient practices to align with DCD policies and
procedures; delegates these duties to appropriate staff members;
coaches hospital staff on specialized treatments such as renal
replacement. Uses caution to clearly communicate and uses legible
handwriting when needed Performs Acute treatments at assigned
hospitals as needed. Unit Responsibilities Participates in Unit
Meetings as required, such as Staff Meetings and In-services.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or
assigned; works at assigned outpatient facility.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities General: Exceptional time management,
organizational skills, and keen emotional intelligence. High

support. Technical: Exceptional nursing skills. Ability to speak
clearly and convey information effectively, as well as exhibit
excellent listening skills, and accurately record messages and
information. Able to teach, review and ensure information is
received and understood. Demonstrate a Subject Matter Expert (SME)
level of knowledge of applicable medications, machines, and
therapies. Skilled with email, search engine, and Internet; and
ability to effectively use Microsoft Products: Outlook, Word, and
Excel, and PowerPoint and the company’s accounting system. Must be
able to use and access the HIPPA Compliant Application and stays
fully engaged throughout shift, Communication: Excellent written
and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and interpret
documents such as procedure manuals, doctor’s instructions, etc.
Ability to write specific reports and correspondence Acute RN
position. Ability to effectively direct routine issues or problems
positively to the appropriate person or department and follow
through to ensure those issues have been resolved. Ability to
communicate diplomatically and respectfully with patients and
visitors, as well as within the staff and principals. Math &
Reasoning: Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete
variables in standardized situations. Ability to add, subtract,
multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and
decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw
and interpret tables and bar graphs. Ability to define problems,
collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Physical
and Environmental Elements Physical Demands: Ability to stand and
sit and walk throughout the workday; potentially prolong standing
as needed. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and to reach
with hands and arms throughout shift as needed. Ability to push,
pull and lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to clearly speak and hear
continuously. Note: Machine and equipment can be heavy, up to 350
pounds, while on rollers, the position requires the ability to push
equipment. Position must life chemicals and water solutions up to
30 pounds up to five feet. Work Environment: Employee works in a
clinical/office environment with moderate noise levels (such as
computers and printers) and controlled temperature conditions. The
position may be exposed to contagious and infectious diseases and
materials and take necessary precautions. Special Requirements May
be required to work weekends and holidays as business necessitates;
schedules will be determined by the department
