Job Description:
Electrical and Automation Engineer
BASIC FUNCTION:Responsible for the design, maintenance,
troubleshooting, and programming of existing and future electrical
and automation systems and equipment, as well the optimization of
the different Calcium Carbonate processes and production at the
plants. including the design and execution of capital projects and
other projects, site support and surveys.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain safe working conditions and practices to achieve a
zero (0) lost time injury record within the area of responsibility.
Perform work duties in accordance with QSHE system procedures.
- Knowledge of industrial power distribution systems and
equipment such as Switchgears, Switchboards, MCC, Oil/Dry
Transformers.
- Specify and size equipment and infrastructure, using NEC and
NFPA Standards
- Power system modeling software (EasyPower, Etap) to create
short circuit/arc flash/coordination/grounding and load
studies
- Reviewing electrical studies and taking proper actions to
deliver a compliance electrical system.
- Participates in construction support, Factory Acceptance Test
of Equipment, startup and commissioning efforts
- Project development in assigned areas consisting of new
construction, remodel, or renovation of facilities, and equipment.
Duties to include, but not limited to: preliminary surveys, drawing
preparation, scope of work, contractor sourcing / pre-bid meetings,
construction document reviews to ensure adherence to NEC,
NFPA.
- Updates and maintains electrical, schematic, for new and
modified infrastructure in assigned areas; develops electrical
safety procedures
- Communicates with suppliers concerning performance of their
products, improvement, and potential cost savings; works with
suppliers to investigate new technologies, and to resolve problems
and concerns.
- Create and review basic design for controls schematics, panel
layout in accordance with UL508A.
- Define control and visualization requirements for projects and
processes, including specifications, procurement support, design,
testing, implementation, installation, commissioning,
troubleshooting and optimization of electrical and automation &
control systems (including network devices, power distribution,
starters, VSDs, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI-SCADA
systems).
- Work with the engineering, maintenance and production staff to
define process design and control systems and projects. Lead the
use of proper electrical, instrumentation, and process control
elements to protect equipment, make quality products with the
minimum of manual control and maintenance. Design systems so
quality control information and production reporting data is
collected and available in useful formats.
- Define and ensure that all projects, equipment specifications
and standards, as well as guidelines, are maintained and follow
proper international codes and regulations, but at minimum local
regulations and permits.
- Provide immediate diagnosis assistance to plant personnel when
control systems are malfunctioning or when product is
out-of-specification.
- Support, research and evaluate new technologies in
collaboration and interaction with other of our regions and
Competence Centers.
- Assist RAM Engineering to initiate, estimate, seek financial
approval, design, specify, direct engineering effort, supervise
construction, manage project costs, commissioning, check-out and
start-up capital projects as required.
- Maintain PLC, SCADA, and network documentation and 'red lining'
of electrical and process drawings.
- Interface with all level of staff and contractors, external
engineering companies in the different phases of an electrical or
automation projects at various sites and departments to ensure that
quality product is produced in an economical and safe manner.
- Act as a project manager on electrical and automation projects,
as needed.

Candidate profile requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors or Masters of Science's Degree in
Electrical or Control Engineering, or other related engineering
field.A minimum of 5 years of hands on experience in the electrical
and automation fields (construction, maintenance, supervision,
project & engineering phases, upgrades), or an equivalent
combination of education, training and experience, are required,
PLC programming, SCADA programming, databases, visual basic,
networking, servers, Electrical and Automation systems and
instrumentation experience in Calcium Carbonate processes is
essential. Acknowledge of electrical testing meters and methods are
preferred.Experience with power substations and
distribution-related equipment (control and protection), motor
starters (LV and MV), VSD, PLCs and other related equipment is
required. Knowledge of electrical and control code standards and
regulations is required (NEC, NFPA 70E, CSA Z462, IEEE). Experience
with mining and industrial process equipment is strongly preferred.
Well-developed analytical, judgement, interpersonal, management and
communication skills.
- Experience of industrial power distribution systems and
equipment such as Switchgears, Switchboards, MCC, Oil/Dry
Transformers.
- Ability to specify equipment, interpret and apply NEC/NFPA
Standards
- Experience with power system modeling software (EasyPower,
Etap) to create short circuit/arc flash/coordination/grounding and
load studies
- Experience reviewing electrical studies and taking proper
actions to deliver a compliance electrical system.
- Experience traveling to different plant sites to perform duties
as electrical supervisor, surveys
Familiar with P&ID's as they relate instrumentation and
controls Self performs design of low voltage (600 and below) power
distribution systems, design of medium voltage?.
Must be able to work independently and accept responsibility for
sophisticated and expensive equipment and work responsibly with
potentially hazardous processes and systems.
Travel regularly (domestically & internationally) up to 60% of the
time, including weekends and for extended durations. Must be
physically able to work around industrial facilities, to include
heights, climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending and entry of
confined spaces, as necessary, to inspect equipment. Be on-call
(during and after business hours, and weekends) to support
emergency plant situations remotely (up to 2% of the time).
Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
